Had Southern Roots for the first time a couple weeks ago. Just now getting to review, because I've been thinking about it ever since! I've lived in cedar creek for over 5 years now. My husband and I have passed by countless times. Finally we stopped in, and I am so sad about what I have been missing all this time! The food is beyond delicious. I cannot believe we have food this good out here!! The chicken fried steak is the best in Bastrop county- no lie! The dessert is hard to beat! The sweet tea is the epitome of Southern sweet tea! This is all made by the most down to earth family you will meet. Please don't be like me and miss out on this amazing place!!

Stopped in for a late lunch (mid afternoon), had the shrimp and fish po'boys, both of which were very good. Had dirty rice and mac'n'cheese as the sides and they were both great, too. Good home style cooking, friendly staff and owners. Family owned restaurants like this are the way to go.

This is the best food I've eaten in a very long time. Price is great for the portions you get! 6 stars! I will definitely return to try more deliciousness!!!! The chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans were all amazing... and the fried okra was to die for!

Omg! If you haven’t been to Southern Roots Cafe, take a little drive out to Cedar Creek and give it a try. Now make sure you aren’t in a rush because everything is made fresh to order so it comes out nice and hot. But trust me when I say it is worth the wait! We tried the fried catfish with Mac n cheese and okra and the red beans and rice with fried chicken. Oh and don’t forget that homemade cornbread! How do I describe perfection other than to say wow! My taste buds were dancing! These folks have a gift for southern cooking. But don’t take my word for it. Get on down to Southern Roots Cafe and try it for yourself. Just moved to the Austin area and had my first meal. Was lucky enough to wonder upon the Southern Roots Cafe. I loved this place from the moment I walked in. Very quiet, low key cafe with very nice decor and cool signage all around. Miss Yvette greeted us as she worked diligently with the other guests. Place smelled amazing. We ordered two platters and split a bacon cheeseburger as well. Her husband Michael prepared our meals to perfection. I was completely satisfied, one of the best meals I have had in a restaurant all year! The smothered pork chops were delicious and the potatoes were no joke, the real deal. Chicken fried chicken was my favorite, gravy was perfectly seasoned. Okra was done nicely, crispy outside and soft inside. Mac and cheese was nice and creamy. Started this all off with a bacon cheeseburger. Was cooked fresh and you could tell. It had a great seasoning and the Bacon had a hint of maple to it. So juicy and tasty. Not a dessert eater normally, but couldn’t resist the Banana pudding cheesecake. One of the best things I have ever eaten. If Miss Yvette is making this in house, she could mass produce this and make a fortune. I will make this place a regular establishment for me each month. I highly recommend this place. All the meals are prepared as you order, no pre-made meals here. Come out and support your local businesses.

The place was small, but inviting. The music and atmosphere was perfect, like a welcoming home or like your grandmas home. The food took a little bit longer than expected, but was well worth it. Everything was beyond expectations and tasted homemade like from scratch as soon as we ordered it. Will definitely make the drive just to enjoy this place again.

The food here is amazing. I absolutely detest pan gravy. Never found any I liked. Found it here! It was amazing! The fried okra and chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked. My son's burger was perfect. I can't wait to bring my husband after he tries these ribs I'm taking home to him. Lol
